Classroom Agreements

During the first week of classes, your students and I will come up with the classroom expectations and we will each sign agreements with one another that lays out what I expect from them and what they can expect from me. The four things that I will always ask of my students are listed below. we will expand upon these ideas as a class, but these will be the framework of our agreements and expectations.

After we decide, as a class, the finalized classroom agreements and procedures, I will create a contract for myself, the students and the parents. This will be signed by everyone. These contracts will include all of the things that the students and I came up with that we agreed to do for one another to make our classroom run effectively and efficiently while giving us the opportunity to have fun and learn in the classroom without having to stop and

Classroom Agreements:

Be Respectful: We agree to be respectful of each other and the classroom community as a whole. We will listen when someone else is talking, keep our hands to ourselves, be respectful of our classroom and classroom supplies, use a respectful tone of voice when speaking to one another, etc.

Be Open: We agree to be open to new things and ideas. We will respect each other's differences. We will be open to hearing ideas that may be different than our own. We can have a spirited debate when we do not see eye to eye with someone on something rather than getting into an argument. We will understand that it is our differences that make us unique and special.

Be Responsible: We agree to be responsible for ourselves and our classmates. We will be responsible for showing up to class prepared. We will be responsible for helping each other out in times of need. We will be responsible for maintaining a safe and judgment free classroom that promotes the best learning environment from all of the students inside.

Be proud: We agree to be proud of the work that we do and the people that we are. We will take pride in everything we do. We will lead by example and show the rest of the school that we are a proud and capable class.

Code of Cooperation

In our classroom our behavior expectations are based on our Code of Cooperation. Each section of the Code of Cooperation matches one of the responsibilities of a learner section of the report card.

We will review the Code of Cooperation at the beginning of the year, and at the beginning of each quarter. A copy of the Code of Cooperation will be sent home the first week of school for you to look over with your child. You will both sign the Code of Cooperation and it will stay in your child's agenda for the whole year.

Classroom Procedures

Class Line Ups: Students will be broken up into groups and each group will be at a table together. These groups will be given a table number. When we go to line up, we will start with one table and move on to the next, then the students will come and line up in alphabetical order. We will practice this repeatedly the first week of school so students know what they are supposed to do.

Water Breaks: Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottles to class with them. I have written it on their classroom supply list. I will also have a few available for those students who did not bring one that they can keep. Students are welcome to use the water fountain in the classroom whenever they need to. They do not need to disrupt the class or ask for permission, if they are thirsty, they can just go.

Bathroom Breaks: Because we pleaded to be "responsible" I believe we can trust the students to use the bathroom whenever they need to without having to ask permission.

Lunch: We will line up for lunch the same way we would if we were going to any other place in the school. Students will grab what they need when their table is called and get in line.
