My Teaching Philosophy

School Children

I have dreamed of becoming a teacher since I was a little girl and I am so excited that I have finally made it into my very own classroom. I believe that shaping the minds of our future leaders is an amazing thing and I feel so fortunate that I get to do this for my career.

I believe that the students should be the captains of the ship when it comes to navigating their educational journeys. Students should be given the opportunity to help create the classroom culture through shared creation of classroom expectations and goals. They should also help guide where the curriculum will go and what activities we will do to get to where we need to go.

I will not have a "cookie cutter" class that has the same types of lessons and activities every day. Students will be given choices in how they will show me their content knowledge. Because I know that all students have their own way of learning things, I will provide them with the options that work best for their learning styles.

As a teacher, I want to be there to support the students while they learn the standards through hands-on and engaging lessons that are student-centered. Gone are the days of a teacher-centered room. While I know this is a huge change from what most people are used to, this type of teaching will provide the students with the opportunity to become immersed in the curriculum. This type of immersion helps them make better connections to the things they are learning.
